Photo blog: Finding the light

In this photo blog, light comes into focus. After all, photography is the art of capturing light.

Artists like Vermeer  and Monet inspire me with their ability make everyday scenes so beautiful by using light as their primary tool. In my photos, the play of dark shadows against bright highlights showcases the versatility of the Mexican landscape.

Making me smile

  • Watching my fellow volunteers from afar as they do an amazing job at Camp Mariposas. Well done ladies; it seems like you are really making a measurable difference in the lives of more than 25 young women!
  • Almost a month after the injury, I am finally able to carry a coffee to the couch by myself. Small steps  sure feel like big accomplishments
  • Long conversations with my grandmother; we ramble onto almost any topic and enjoy having this time to connect
  • Realizing all of the “normal” things that I had not done while in the Peace Corps: grocery shopping in a supermarket, getting my nails done, paying bills online, driving a car, shopping for clothes, and power-watching an entire season of a TV show in less than a week. Some of these things I have done for the first time in more than a year and a half while others are still too tricky with my injury (eg. driving and shopping). I guess I did not realize how different my life had become
